| Who would a person write to about getting a law passed about people driving with a dam dog on their lap!!! The streets aren't bad enough but some guy in a pick-up on 2nd street today had what looked to be a black lab laying across his lap while he was driving. Head resting on the guys arm and door. Also, people that have driveway access, don't park on the street. If you park in your driveway, and it snows, you have less snow to shovel because it doesn't snow under your car! |

82866 - Tue Jan 26 17:08:39 2010 - [Be careful how you vote] By: Share the Wealth |
The ant works hard in the withering heat and the rain all summer long, building his house and laying up supplies for the winter.
The grasshopper thinks the ant is a fool and laughs and dances and plays the summer away.
Come winter, the shivering grasshopper calls a press
conference and demands to know why the ant should be
allowed to be warm and well fed while he is cold and starving.
CBS, NBC , PBS, CNN, and ABC show up to
provide pictures of the shivering grasshopper next to a
video of the ant in his comfortable home with a table filled with food.
America is stunned by the sharp contrast.
How can this be, that in a country of such wealth, this poor grasshopper is allowed to suffer so?
Kermit the Frog appears on Oprah with the grasshopper and everybody cries when they sing, 'It's Not Easy Being Green...'
ACORN stages a demonstration in front of the ant's house
where the news stations film the group singing,“We shall overcome.”
Then Rev. Jeremiah Wright has the group kneel down to pray to Godfor the grasshopper's sake.
President Obama condemns the ant and blames
President Bush, President Reagan, Christopher Columbus, and the Pope for the grasshopper's plight.
Nancy Pelosi & Harry Reid exclaim in an interview with Larry King that the ant has gotten rich off the back of the grasshopper, and both call for an immediate tax hike on the ant to make him pay his fair share.
Finally, the EEOC drafts the Economic Equity &Anti-Grasshopper Act retroactive to the beginning of the summer.
The ant is fined for failing to hire a proportionate number of green bugs and, having nothing left to pay his retroactive taxes, his home is confiscated by the government Green Czar and given to the grasshopper.
The story ends as we see the grasshopper and his free-loading friends finishing up the last bits of the ant’s food while the government house he is in, which, as you recall, just happens to be the ant's old house,
crumbles around them because the grasshopper doesn't
maintain it.
The ant has disappeared in the snow, never to be seen again.
The grasshopper is found dead in a drug related incident, and the house, now abandoned, is taken over by a gang of spiders who terrorize the ramshackle, once prosperous
and once peaceful, neighborhood.
The entire Nation collapses bringing the rest of the free world with it.
MORAL OF THE
STORY: Be careful how you vote in 2010.

PSALM 2010:
Obama is the shepherd I did not want.
He leadeth me beside the still factories.
He restoreth my faith in the Republican party.
He guideth me in the path of unemployment for his party's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the bread line, I shall fear no hunger, for his bailouts are with me.
He has anointed my income with taxes,
My expenses runneth over.
Surely, poverty and hard living will follow me all the days of my life, And I will live in a mortgaged home forever.
I am glad I am American,
I am glad that I am free..
But I wish I was a dog .....
And Obama was a tree.

82864 - Tue Jan 26 14:50:21 2010 - [Keep the money in America by:] By: Economics 101 |
Sometime this year, we taxpayers will again receive another 'Economic Stimulus' payment.
This is indeed a very exciting program, and I'll explain it by Using a Q & A format:
Q. What is an 'Economic Stimulus' payment ?
A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers.
Q.. Where will the government get this money ?
A. From taxpayers.
Q. So the government is giving me back my own money ?
A. Only a smidgen of it.
Q. What is the purpose of this payment ?
A. The plan is for you to use the money to purchase a
High-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy.
Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China ?
A. Shut up.
Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. Economy by
Spending your stimulus check wisely:
* If you spend the stimulus money at Wal-Mart, the money will
Go to China or Sri Lanka .
* If you spend it on gasoline, your money will go to the
Arabs.
* If you purchase a computer, it will go to India, Taiwan or
China .
* If you purchase fruit and vegetables, it will go to Mexico,
Honduras and Guatemala ..
* If you buy an efficient car, it will go to Japan or Korea
* If you purchase useless stuff, it will go to Taiwan.
* If you pay your credit cards off, or buy stock, it will go
To management bonuses and they will hide it offshore.
Instead, keep the money in America by:
1) Spending it at yard sales, or
2) Going to ball games, or
3) Spending it on prostitutes, or
4) Beer or
5) Tattoos.
(These are the only American businesses still operating in the U.S. )
Conclusion:
Go to a ball game with a tattooed prostitute that you met at a yard
Sale and drink beer all day !

No one can blog that much and spew such nonsense over and over again. I have to give the republicans credit, the planting of "C" into the local blogs is a brilliant idea. Good job Brandon Stahl allowing that loon Claire to post on your blog. It was a great idea allowing her to show herself for who she really is and it worked just as planned. She posted her typical leftist, socialist nonsense and after the majority of citizens comments criticized her nonsense, she then posted under many other monikers trying to show support for her pathetic postings. But any reader can now clearly see just how desperate and sick she really is to have written under so many other names in an attempt to show that there exist others as whacked out as she is here in Duluth. And to think that she claims to be one of the elitist leaders at Progressive Action. How much more of this progress can we take?
I'm still laughing at how the whole thing worked out so well.
Thanks Brandon for the laughs. Now, if you could only encourage her to run for office.... |

My impression is that you have put a lot of thought into the things you write, and I personally think you are pretty much right on, not that I expect you care what my opinion of you may be. I am simply making observations, and these are all just my opinions. What you have written sounds like the basis for a grass roots movement to re-insert common sense into the entire process. I applaud you for that. Maybe I can qualify one thing I wrote last week...rather than blaming capitalism for problems, I should have blamed the abuse of capitalism. My apologies for that. Let's see Me Again, there is something we could do to better this situation. If we truly are a democracy, why don't we out those who are causing the corruption? You probably know why, these people need our tax dollars to support they way the are accustomed to living and aren't about to let it go.
Meanwhile, it's business as usual for the elite, but for the common, hardworking people who pay these outrageous salaries, some are hoping that things will turn around.
There's a certain crowd of citizens who believe that they deserve better treatment than all of the rest. The wage they receive is the same one that all hard working people should receive. Too bad that there's only so many that can ride on the 'Gravy Train' that takes everything hard working people have to give so they can ride the train of easy life! |

82840 - Sun Jan 24 14:07:18 2010 - [Do not excuse foolishNESS & greedyNESS] By: Of Politics and Prosperity |
I need to apologize to Me Again for my thinking that my ranting was understandable. Civility offers us all different levels of difficulty. It can tangle thought process, this depends greatly on what and how much you have experienced! To better and more briefly state my points;
a As long as money keeps buying political office and civic advantage, the only "change" will be that that is all what's left in the people's pockets.
b Capitolism is not responsible for our economic woes. The breaking of common sense civil laws, rules, and regulations is. The political selling of socialism under the guise of capitolism can only be attempted through greed and corruption.
Solutions as you requested;
a End political parties, not the right to gather, which ends the special interest. Our City Charter designs the mayors race this way, right? Right, right down to DFL Obama's campaign district chairman?!!! Keep it to yourself, serve the people not a political party.
b Take the big money out of campaigning and public office. Good canidates exist that seek a better place to live rather than a career. This is true especially in todays economy.
c Make our laws applicable to ALL in degree and circumstance. Money or political stature aside.
d Pray that the freedoms, democracy makes us earn, are not sold-out before the people's vote can no longer be heard.
e Read the Constitution, The Bill of Rights, The Ten Commandments, put yourself in others shoes, and try to find accountable politicians who you least suspect will seek advantage from their position. This would all but empty Duluth City Hall, The County, and our areas' House of Representatives of recognizable political faces in just over 3 years.
d Stop the in fighting and use the energy to grow understanding and resolution, avoid "getting even", but DO NOT EVER let common sense civility be extended to excuse outright foolishNESS and greedyNESS!!!!!!!!!! |

82837 - Sun Jan 24 02:18:20 2010 - [A little more civility can go a long way] By: Me Again |
Hey Michael, I appreciate your acknowledgement of what I am trying to promote...a little more civility could go a long way, locally and nationally. It is OK to disagree on an issue, maybe even healthy. I do not know enough about local politics to identify the destructive capacity of "special interests," but I do know that smug generalizing about how bad things are is not productive without something constructive offered in its place. Many people that post here write about what's wrong, but I do not see any solutions suggested. It is easy to be brilliant in retrospect. In a post or two on Friday I did mention some of the things I do not agree with, whether they are considered special interests I do not know.
The voters ultimately make the decisions, assuming the elected officials live up to their campaign promises, promises that are often nothing more than what the candidates think the voters want to hear. Often the voters are very disappointed when the elected officials can not live up to the promises. Whose fault is it then? Who's to blame? The voters for being gullible? The campaigners for misrepresenting their abilities?
I consider myself to be an average, maybe a little below average person, I wonder frequently why anyone wants to open themselves to the scrutiny and pressure of public office. I wonder how Tony Cuneo felt when his personal financial troubles were outed, although I do not feel that those troubles have any bearing on his ability to perform his councilor duties. Many others have beat on him because of it though. None for me thanks.
Some people applaud the rhetoric of "living within our means," "cutting pork," and "transparency." I have heard "living within our means" and "cutting pork," as Mr. Pawlenty's justification for unallotments, being like the typical household budget cutting back on luxuries...eating out, going to movies, skippping vacations et cetera. But a household budget crunch sometimes means getting a second job for more income, which translates to raising tax revenues. Quality of life for all should be the goal, which includes financial solvency, and safety for all people. If those are not the goals of an elected official, then the wrong person got elected. Those goals should be the priorities, not one's future political ambitions.
The Democrats' town hall meetings last summer were a good indication of how well transparency is received, when opposition provided misinformation is held as truth. Republican senators confirming the "Death Panels" as real? Get real. If any of that bullshit was true, we as Americans are being remiss by not recalling President Obama and the Democrats for pushing such a plan. Once again, the source of the information you choose to believe is important. When Jon Stewart is presenting more truth than Fox News, it makes one wonder.
It is not just DFL controlled governmental bodies that are experiencing budget woes. The Governator is a Republican isn't he? I don't think budget crises are exclusive to Democrats, yet many of the posters here seem to equate budget problems with the DFL. WTF?
Most blogs that I visit seem to lean heavily in one direction or another, often creating an unfriendly environment for opposing viewpoints...I guess the anonymous nature of blogging enables that, maybe encourages it. When I first heard of Air America I thought, how refreshing ...political commentary without a bunch of right wing bias. But I tuned out Air America quickly, learning that foolishness goes both ways.
I believe most of the regulars here consider my comments to be in support of all things DFL, judging from past responses to my thoughts, but that is not the case. I did not vote for Al Franken, I do not blindly follow party lines. But because of these comments, I expect I will be ridiculed and accused of drinking the Kool Aid. But this blog presumably will publish as is, because of the "exercising free speech" tagline. I still do not understand why "exercising free speech" needs a moderator at all.
One of our great freedoms is the right to make our own choices. A problem I have constantly is trying to ascertain who is telling the truth...FOX News disses The New York Times and MSNBC, I feel Keith Olbermann is as far out of line as Sean Hannity. Glenn Beck is downright dangerous because people believe him. Sarah Palin as a new analyst? Why not Madonna? In my humble opinion NPR offers the most unbiased coverage of issues. One day last summer I listened to President Obama delivering an address live in the afternoon, that night Sean Hannity's comments about it would have made one think there were two different speeches. Mr. Hannity solidified my opinion of him that day. Fox News has more spin than a cotton candy machine.
I have written numerous times that this blog, with such a noble name, could be a catalyst to real dialogue given the chance. But maybe real dialogue does not matter and will not change anything. If that is the case we are doomed. Zealots do not want to change, bigotry and bias are easier than accepting that one may be wrong about something.
I believe Barack Obama recognizes that large segments of the world hate the United States for past imperialist transgressions, and those who do not acknowledge those transgressions label him an apologist. Most of the interferences have been political or commercial/industrial, but create resentment regardless. What is wrong with acknowledging things done wrong in the past? It is not unpatriotic to admit that mistakes were made. GW Bush acknowledged that "Mission Accomplished" was premature...an understatement to say the least. Mr.Obama's show of respect for different cultures hopefully will help promote a new climate of diplomacy, if he is not assassinated and survives his presidency. This is not to say that he has not made mistakes. His approval rating continues to slide. I can't help but wonder how things would be if we were a year into a McCain/Palin administration. But I guess such speculation is fruitless.
I do not claim to have answers. We all need to be more open minded, leaving disdain and scorn out by the outhouse. It is not easy to be respectful when it is not reciprocal. I tend to get long winded, but isn't the Duluth Citizens Blog a logical place for exercising free speech? Please take the time to read the comments from "Of Politics And Prosperity" from Friday or Saturday. These are all just my opinions of course. Thank you. |

To "Of Politics and Prosperity," once again you present interesting although somewhat difficult-to-follow reading. Once again I read your post two times. To me you appear to be quite astute in your observations, and offer some things that I know nothing about, and that's OK.
In my not always so humble opinion, this is the type of exchange of thoughts and ideas that this blog offers the potential for, rather than being mired in stupid lists, personal affronts and other junior high behaviors, and I for one am pleased to see it. Not that I expect anyone cares about what I feel. Maybe some of the other contributors will take note and the overall mood of this place could improve. It doesn't need to be receptacle for negativity.
Thank you for your post. |

82827 - Sat Jan 23 12:27:20 2010 - [Haliburton no different than DFL Duluth] By: Of Politics and Prosperity |
Don Ness quitely returns thousands of too legally excessive campaign dollars to union supporters, lie or truth? Obama ops out of a public funded campaign and spends more than any other presidential canidate in history, truth or lie? Al Franken recieves millions of dollars of out of state DFL money and Minn. now has a basicly non-Minnesotan sitting in Washington, truth or lie? Does that mean Charlie Bell would have been better mayor, or McCain a better president, or Coleman a better Senator, of course not. Yet, in the case of Charlie Bell, any change of venue in Duluth would at least raise hope to those citizens hoplessly wallowing in the decades of DFL created mud. There was a independent common sense canidate in the Senate race, but money had become that which bought political position up until the recent Massachuetts election.
City Councilors, Mayors, County Commissioners, and State Legislators from this area are and were Union, Gov't, Non-Profit, or Status Quo Corporate employed as a majority. How may of these folks are or were educators? When was the last time they had to meet a payroll, pay a business dehabilitating 3.5 to 4.0 percent Commerical property tax, come up with one after the other $600.00 a year for more special programs or perks that DFL ideology continued to produce? The majority of local politicians live lives with self built in protection from the fiscal reality, that those, who are the real creators of revenue that float the DFL ship of special interest here, must endure. I'm referring to dying small business that is without question the backbone of a once great economy. Our local politicians have committed acts that would land the common citizen in jail or bankruptcy, yet they keep getting reelected!!!!!!!!!
Last but not least, Me Again, since when is true capitolism represented by The Duluth Chamber, Greater Downtown Council, Duluth City Hall, Haliburton, or special health care reform deals to states and the unions? You do not want to argue the redistribution of wealth Fannie May and Freddie Mac worked out over the last 20 years with me! True democratic capitolism as laid out by our Constitution and wise forefathers doesn't have people buying their form of "democracy" with the well being and freedoms of others. True capitolism, like that that made our Country one of the greatest in history, was about enforcing it's laws and use of common sense, not turning our backs to it. It was about a non-religious godliness where common sense rules, like the Ten Commandments, were as welcome on the lawn of City Hall as the Gay Liberation Movement!
Let the competition of democracy ruled capitolism rein again. Give my children and grandchildren a chance. Let prosperity back into our City, State, and Country. Let laws again insure only honest reward be allowed, as we vote out the greed and selfish apathy that too many Republicans along the likes of DFL Don Ness and socialism have breed. Change truly starts at home!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just my opinion. Thank You |

| So I drove past the new Texas Roadhouse restaurant today. Saw there were union people out protesting yet again. Could you pro-union people please tell me what does protesting something that is already done accomplish? The restaurant will probably do well. Secondly, the union concuept sounds very selfish to me, as it always about the union. What about the other person. And third, the restaurant is a corporately built restaurant, I highly doubt that the proprietor of Texas Roadhouse had any say in who was doing the work. |

I expected to see a line up of local Socialists this evening on PBS, but instead I get a handful of multimillionaire Democrats asking for me to dial in and give more of my money to another country. Sorry, but I do believe Bruce Springstein is in a little better position than I am with his hundreds of millions of dollars to hand over ten bucks than me and the millions of unemployed Americans. Democrats never stop with their fleecing, extortion, stealing, and grubbing. If a few of these Holllywod elitists and DFL Duluth elitists like Ness and Co. would get together and practice what they preach, the problem would be resolved.
Who is helping the poor citizens of Duluth who have been living in hell under a one party DFL special intersts dictatorship for decades? Who is standing up for them? Who is standing up for the retired mom and pops in Duluth who thought they would get to retire after a lifetime of working only to find DFL Donny Ness reaching even further into their pockets to pay for his own pathetic political existence and of his close DFL cronies too.
Duluth needs help and regime change now! In the meantime, get a good grip on your ankles and try to tune out what is happening to you and try to bear the pain until the DFL and Ness and Co. leave the room.
STARFIRE: Ben Dover, I am starting to get the feeling that you are not a Democrat. LOL! |

82815 - Fri Jan 22 20:20:21 2010 - [Who chooses, voters or special interests] By: Me Again |
Hey "Of Politics and Prosperity," thanks for your comments, real attention grabbers to be sure.
I have not expressed approval or support of NLX, a new police station, Sister Cities, Water Gardens or Wet Houses, new DECC Arena or some of the other things you mentioned. I am not happy about the Red Plan either.
Most of the politicians you mentioned were elected by voters. I find it difficult to believe any of the city councilors you mentioned are in it for financial rewards. Maybe I am too trusting, but I think all of them want to improve Duluth. Improvement of life quality, financial stability, safety. Obviously I did not vote for all of them. And I certainly do not agree with all of them.
Entitlement programs are abused, no doubt about that. But what is to be done with people that genuinely need assistance? Not everyone is capable of fending for themselves. Is it fiscally prudent to let them die? Or live in squalor? Because they are not capable of supporting themselves? How Aryan.
Is the answer as simple as electing different candidates? Or should voters simply vote by label (conservative vs liberal)? Or party? I do not think that is a good idea.
I am not happy that people come from all over to get the benefits of St. Louis Cty. But if a person has a genuine need, based on the criteria in place, the programs that sustain them must be funded somehow. Maybe the criteria needs to be changed.
Either way, we are faced with tough situations. I do not claim a political affiliation, I would like to see common sense prevail. I certainly do not have the answers.
You present many things to be pissed about...I agree with many of them, I also feel that many of the woes we face, locally and nationally are/were caused by the capitalism system itself and greed, irrespective of political leadership. Who is responsible for the sub prime mess, generally considered to be the catalyst of most of the problems faced on a national level.
Again, I do not allege to have answers, but I try to present reasonable observations and questions. These are all just my opinions. Thank you.

Just up from the secretary's house... The DFD members are still fleecing the taxpayers of our city. Late this week I had a conversation with a member at Super One Foods.
I was shocked at what he had to say. He told me many members are embarassed at their union activities and their endorsements of political candidates. I got to know this gentlemen for only about 5 minutes in the aisle of the store and came away feeling a little different about the DFD union.
This Firefighter said their is in-fighting within the union and many are frustrated with their liberal union leadership and their liberal endorsements. He said their is work going on behind the scenes to attempt to change the leadership on their union board but says the current union board members are staunch liberal democrates and causing many problems. He told me that about half of the fire department members are conservative but the loud mouths are running the show for now. This guy was in his mid 30's so there is hope for change |

82810 - Fri Jan 22 16:15:13 2010 - [The ONE and Only DFL Duluth Defined] By: Of Politics and Prosperity |
Taxation affects everyone the least with the most benefit to all!!!!? A balance of fiscal prudence and increased revenue!!!!? The recent Massachuetts election has proved that even dyed in the wool DFLers are waking up to DFL criminal disregard for fiscal prudence and the continuious levying of lies and taxes. It only took a year nationally, yet Me Again along with others here, remain oblivious to the effects of DFL taxes and fees in Duluth. Me Again is right, to the overpaid, ineffective, non-competition facing government union employees, it hurts the least and benefits them more. To the record holding, low income, homeless, drug-alcohol dependent, and crime is fine, population of DFL Duluth, it hurts the least and benefits them more. To the millionaire mafia, DEDA sucking, City Hall controling, TIF forever, tax evading, whats mine is mine and yours will be too, "business leaders" of Duluth, it hurts the least and benefits them more. As Duluths' middle class has died and left the DFL in deficeit, politicians like Ness, Reinert, Murphy, Prettner Solon, Gardner, Cuneuo, Anderson, Gilbert, Bergson, Huntley, shit, the lists too long, live lives totally disassociated from those that are actually HURTING as they pay to float the DFL ship! Think of the retired and those working hard yet loosing their homes and fiscal independence! Donny Ness and Barrack Obama talk the talk of their propserity plans but are full of false socialistic propaganda and use historically unaccountable people in their plan.
What happens to a McDonalds that takes out a patty, cuts the lettuce amount in half and uses moldy buns, yet charges more than another that holds their price down and has a quality sandwich? Nothing if they are the only one in town? Let's talk about Rochester compared to Duluth.
You can't support a City on the dreams of Wet Houses and Water Gardens, of Fish Tanks and Casino Thanks, Expensive Ramps and Civil Liberty Camps, of High Speed Rail and Free without Bail, of TIF's and Block long Gifts, of Hockey Arena DECC's and Aircraft Maintenance Beats. Name one thing Don Ness has done that was "FISCALLY PRUDENT" for Duluth taxpayers. Please keep in mind pending court appeals and things he allowed to grow to unbelievable costly circumstance might disqualify a related act of supposed prudence.

NATURE OF INCIDENT: Money Transfer Scam
CASE NO.: 10211320
INCIDENT DATE :01/21/2010
INCIDENT TIME: 1913 hours
INCIDENT LOCATION: Duluth
SUBJECT: Police alert citizens of recent money transfer scam
BY: Officer Brad Wick, Information Coordinator
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Duluth Police want to advise citizens of recent money transfer scam.
On Thursday evening, January 21, 2010, Duluth police took a report from a couple who said they had received a call stating that their grandson was in a automobile crash and going to be put in jail in Toronto, Canada unless they sent $2400.00. The caller claimed to be the grandson’s attorney and told the elderly couple that they should send the money by Western Union. The couple was just about to send the money and hesitated only when they were told there would be a large Western Union fee to send the money. The couple then contacted their daughter who told them that their grandson was not in Canada.
Grandparents and other caring individuals can learn how to avoid being taken in by a fake emergency. If you get a call from a family member or someone claiming to represent a family member asking you to wire money, for example, don’t panic — and resist the urge to act immediately. Some guidelines from the Federal Trade Commission are:
•Try to verify the caller’s identity by asking personal questions a stranger couldn’t answer.
•Resist the pressure to act immediately; don’t be afraid to use a phone number you know to be genuine to call back. If you don’t have the relative’s phone number, get in touch with the person’s parent, spouse, or another close family member to check out the story before you send any money, even if you’ve been told to keep the event a secret.
•If you can’t reach a family member and still aren’t sure what to do, call your local police, they can help you sort things out.
•No matter how dramatic the story, don’t wire money. Don’t send a check or money order by overnight delivery or courier, either. Con artists recommend these services so they can get your money before you realize you’ve been cheated.
•Report possible fraud to the Federal Trade Commission at ftc.gov or by calling 1-877-FTC-HELP.

Barb J, I am not qualified to answer your question, but have always questioned the wisdom of the Red Plan, and the fact that the people that would pay for it did not get to vote on it is alarming. I feel an expenditure that big warranted a vote. I believe Tim Pawlenty's actual or potential delay of state aid to education is very sad...but indicative of the state of things in 2010. The unallotments of 2009 are affecting quality of life for people in Minnesota, but I am getting off on a tangent.
There are many very difficult decisions to be made, at every level of government. As I wrote on Thursday, I believe what is needed is a balance of fiscal prudence and increased revenue, along with more personal responsibility from everyone. There are no easy solutions.
On a larger scale, we should be looking around and acknowledging how fortunate we are that we are not faced with natural disaster, which no amount of debate would solve. Our problems are man made in the sense that all of this might have been prevented...with the right priorities, planning and policy making. There are no easy answers. These are just my opinions of course. Thank you. |

| Hey DFL09, I think I appreciate that you thought I was "one of us." I am certainly not in agreement with most of the people who post here. But I am pleased to see more opposing viewpoints and maybe a little less meanness...a little. I believe the solutions are a balance of fiscal prudence and the raising of taxes, I agree with your thought that taxation affects everyone the least while providing the most benefit for all. I would never put Todd Fedora in the same category as Sarah Palin. I think he is very smart, a little brusque perhaps and means well. I have yet to understand why Sarah Palin has captured the fancy of the conservatives as anything more than a novelty. These are just my opinions of course. Thank you. |

Or a John Edwards fan, you know the one that had a love child that didn't finally admit it until his aide was to have a book sold on groundhog day? | Me Again I thought you were one of us but I guess not. Fedora's policies will bankrupt us because politicians like Fedora want no increases in government revenues. We need leaders we can count on to partner with vital government services especially in these difficult economic times. How anyone with a conscience can starve the vital government services for the poor and all that we provide is plain short sighted. In my department there’s not meat left on the bones. This problem can easily be solved by a very small increase in the portion we all contribute to a better society. Fedora, Pawlenty, Bush, & Palin are detrimental to a fair and equitable way of life. |

82794 - Thu Jan 21 20:49:10 2010 - [DFL squad of Rubes Muffing It Big Time] By: Ben Dover |
Hey Cyberslut Watch, how about "Beat with an Ugly Stick." There is no need to explain what the meaning of this is once a person takes a peek at "it". That is when, "Tough on the eyes" comes into play. Man, are you ever dealing with a snagglepuss. I shouldn't complain too much. "It" is extremely beneficial to the opposition when "it" endorses a given candidate. That is called "The kiss of death" for a candidate. This was proven once again when "it" backed Muff Olson and her far left nonsense agenda.
How many people on Donny Boy Ness's, "Prosperity Agenda Team" work for the government or non profit versus the private sector? How about 100% government or non profit. These ass clowns are the biggest bunch of buffoons that you will find anywhere. But they go on and on and on with their bullcrap and some lemmings actually buy this bull.
Now I know why Duluth is referred to as the Greatest Show on Earth. From late night talk show hosts mocking the city and its so called leaders to those who visit for the last time, Duluth is becoming more and more of a laughingstock under the current DFL squad of Rubes.
Hey, what ever happened to that Pudknocker who suffered from compulsive blogging disorder and who works for some guy known as The Congressclown? I miss his leftist squelings and ramblings. I loved his BS regarding his alleged military campaign. Pretty tough to see what was going on from behind the steering wheel, huh?

82772 - Wed Jan 20 11:05:54 2010 - [Forget the 1 billion debt, we're #1] By: lakesider |
Duluth is on the path to prosperity, but we fail to acknowledge any opportunities or glimpses of hope here. The DECC is nearly half done, The hockey heritage center is open, attracting lots of suburban hockey players, their families, and their money. Spirit Mountain will open the new alpine slide, and Bentleyville will likely attract 250,000 people in next years holiday season. New hotels and restaurants are opening, which will add to our hotel/beverage tax receipts. The police / fire pension liability is done. Our school facilities are seeing decades of deferred improvements and will emerge as regional stars for buildings- our kids will have schools to be proud of. Our airport is expanding, and more waterfront space is being redeveloped.
All of this will result in a great improvement in the quality of life for our residents. This increased quality of life, along with improved infrastructure, should help attract more industries and businesses to our JOBZ zones, the airpark, and the US Steel site.
I applaud our mayor for his prosperity initiative. If only our right wingers could get away from the mentality that "the sky is falling" and look at the great opportunities we have in front of us. With the right leadership, Duluth's best days are truly yet to come. With support from our community, we can work together to truly make this a better place so our children can stay here when they are grown.
MODERATOR: lakesider, you forgot to mention that Duluth has the highest poverty rate in MN, the lowest wages in MN, the most expensive FD in MN, a declining population, a huge influx of non tax generating people, and a one party politcal DFL mafia which has been strangling the area and stagnating it for decades. I am guessing that what you wrote is really just for a good laugh, but in case it wasn't, wow! The sad part is that I bet there are a few others out there that actually believe in the nonsense that you wrote. That just shows how the education system has been failing too by dumbing down the citizens to a point where some become messed up in the head to actaully believe that things are so great. The only people who say that Duluth is on the road to prosperity are those who are still managing to steal from the tax paying citizens and call it justice. This really has to stop or bankruptcy will prevail. |

Perhaps the voters of Mass. were more worried about an Ohbomba care dictate from Washington actually doing harm to their own style of "state" run Ohbomba care. So in a way it is possible that Mass. is so far left with left wing nuts that they had to vote right in order to control other left wing nuts in Washington. Could it be a case where even Democrats came to the realization that you need some Republicans to keep things from getting to out of hand in Washington. |

Good thing Obama went to Massachusetts to pimp his candidate Cloakey. Hope he is enjoying the evening watching the results come in.
His support of any candidate these days is much like "C"s support of any candidate as well, like Beth Olson the last election.
The voters in both cases are getting fed up with the BS and promises and the leftist agendas and corruption. When Obama and "C" pimp candidates it is like the kiss of death for the candidates. That is a fact. Just ask Muff Olson and in the case of Obama, Brown is in The Chappaquidick kid's seat. Is that sweet or what!

They try to spread their BS and when people finally come to their senses, they reject the BS from these so called "Progressives" time and time again. Has Duluth made progress with all the "Progressives" in the city? Nope. How about the U.S? Nope. Just more debt and nonsense social problems. More racism, more division, more hate.
On an even funnier note, I saw the one and only Donny Boy Ness in the limelight again on the evening news talking about some "Prosperity Agenda Team". Come on Donald, how dumb do you think we are? Not all of us just fell off the turnip truck. DFL, job creation, Ha ha ha. They have been saying that for decades. Not unless it is in the government sector or the non profit sector. Funny that Cuneo had his mug in the news clip too. Same DFL buffoons who don't pay their own bills, more debt for the taxpayers in the end.
When will people wake up and kick the DFL parasites and their grubby comrades, the "Progressives" out for good? It can't come too soon. |

OH NO! The panhandlers outside the Kozy Bar are laughing at Claire! Horrors. And by the way, I am not "Me Again" or half the names on that moronic list.
MODERATOR: CK, BTW, a person doesn't need a degree in anything British to understand that you are claiming to be at least half of those on that list by your claim that you are not the other half. Did you watch the Wizard of Oz too many times or what? Why the need to pretend that you are so many people who seem to share the same lame leftist opinions when, in reality, you are just the same old, same old, blah blah blah. |

| Hey John, I think taxpayers not being able to vote on that was a travesty...the stuff tea parties should be made of. The closure of the newest secondary education building, with ample room for expansion, is pure folly in my humble opinion. Just because I question what most of the posters espouse or spew here does not make me a fool, irrespective of what others may think. Lack of respect for opposing viewpoints seems to be the norm here on DCB. I am still waiting on Starfire and Muffin Top to give some specifics about their positions. I am not in denial, I have as many questions and concerns as any other long time home owner in Duluth. But I do not feel the solutions lie in disrespectful, empty rhetoric. Thank you. |

82746 - Sun Jan 17 22:33:24 2010 - [Not educated on DFL Duluth control] By: Me Again |
Starfire, could you be more specific with the statements in your response to my last post? Perhaps you can provide examples, because with all due respect, it just sounds very rhetorical and vague to me. I am the first to admit that I am not educated, and have not followed these topics very closely.
Please elaborate on your statements shown here.
1-Doesn't it bother you that the bought and paid for mayor and city council are running the city into the ground and lying to the fewer and fewer tax paying Duluthians who exist today?
2-...the trust funders who have come to reinvent the wheel and practice their Saul Alinsky indoctrination skills. Who and what?
3-If you think Haiti has a problem, you are in for a huge surprise when the other shoe drops right here in the USA, and right here in DFL Duluth. What does this mean?
4-...our very own James Oberstar, aka Robert Mugabee of NE Minnesota, has connections to Haiti. What does this mean?
5-...much like DFL Duluth, Haiti was ruined by elitists who robbed the country just like the DFL is doing right here in DFL Duluth. Can you be more specific? Who is profiting from the DFL's actions?
Again with all due respect, please offer some specifics, most of what you wrote sounds very similar to the nebulous postings of Ben Dover, Cornholio and perhaps other contributors. I would like to see something concrete, I really would. I do not claim to have answers, but I sense an air of condescension from you and other posters here to anyone that does not share your disdain. Educate me with real information. I have not seen any answers here, but I have seen a lot of sarcastically worded posts, bordering on rambling, that disrespect and denigrate the elected leaders currently serving. What can be done to fix all this? Thank you. |

82741 - Sun Jan 17 17:19:18 2010 - [DCB-Where Freedom of Speech rules!] By: Me Again |
Tony, I feel like I have been scolded by my mom (RIP). My references to the moderators (and my apprehension of them) were explained in the lengthy email I sent to you a while back. There have been times when I have questioned the validity of the "Exercising Free Speech" tagline, but it doesn't matter, it isn't my blog.
On a different note, and if this doesn't get posted I understand. Everyone can text "Haiti" to 90999, a $10 donation to relief efforts will be billed to your service provider account. A very easy way to help in really the only way we can. What a terrible disaster. We put up with some snow and cold around here but generally get through it OK. The situation in Haiti is so sad. Also very sad are the comments made by Pat Robertson and Rush Limbaugh regarding Haiti, especially from Pat Robertson, who alleges to be a man of God. What hypocrisy.
One final thought...How 'bout them Vikings? Thank you.
STARFIRE: Me Again, I agree with you about hycrocrisy. The only difference is that the hypocrisy that bothers me is right here in DFL Duluth. I don't need to look around the country to find it. I find plenty right here in what many now call the A-hole of the USA, referring to DFL Duluth. Doesn't it bother you that the bought and paid for mayor and city council are running the city into the ground and lying to the fewer and fewer tax paying Duluthians who exist today? I don't mean the trash from other cities who come here for the benefits or those who think that everybody should work for the government because the money is free. I don't mean the trust funders who have come to reinvent the wheel and practice their Saul Alinsky indoctrination skills. If you think Haiti has a problem, you are in for a huge surprise when the other shoe drops right here in the USA, and right here in DFL Duluth. Don't you find it interesting that our very own James Oberstar, aka Robert Mugabee of NE Minnesota, has connections to Haiti. Haiti was a shithole before this disaster occurred. Of course any reasonable person feels sorry for Haitians, but so do many people who visit Duluth and ask how a once beautiful city has been run so far into the ground. Many refer to Duluth as a big ghetto. Any wonder why? But much like DFL Duluth, Haiti was ruined by elitists who robbed the country just like the DFL is doing right here in DFL Duluth. I hope that their future is going to be better than their past. How can any reasonable person look out any window in DFL Duluth and say that decades of DFL Duluth mafia politics and corruption has made the city a better place to live in today than it was decades ago? |

DW,
I couldn't agree with you more. It shouldn't be about race, it's all about character.
The democrats are the ones who have divided the American people, often using racism to their own gain of power.
If the democrats were worth a damn Lyndon Johnson's great society would have worked.
People of bad character are of all races.
The trillions spent have only created a class of people dependant on those with the power.
Martin Luther King knew it then and many of us know it today.
The bad characters that have found their way to Duluth over the years again is all about power and control for the local democrats and city and county union folk that continue to make a living promoting hate and hold back those they claim to help.
Just look at the former mayor Bergson who was going to end homelessness by 2010. How many millions of dollars and government jobs and public paid retirements later and the problems are no better than they were before.
Martin Luther King was a great man of the highest character, much different than the democrats who are using the poor and destroy communities for their own personal gain. |

82727 - Sat Jan 16 12:12:28 2010 - [Oberstar’s reign of destruction!] By: LIB Reader Online |
The DFL Godfather is now getting in front of the cameras. Oberstar talks about moral responsibility but doesn't walk the talk. Where are the morals when a lifetime political grub takes the attention of others during one of the world’s largest disasters?
Oberstar has been in office over 30 years and there are many thousands fewer jobs in his district during his reign of destruction. National debt has exploded during his tenure. And as of late, Oberstar has voted for everything that is crippling this country and its future generations. TARP, Stimulus, Cap and Trade, and National Healthcare; all are capitalism killers, millions of permanent job losses and potentially the fall of a once great nation. Even DFL Duluth has become a ghetto in certain areas. This is Oberstar’s reign of destruction!
Oberstar is the reason you can only afford to read the LIB online for free, saving money for another DFL tax, fee, fine increase, and bank and AIG bailouts. But reading the LIB online does save energy that you will not be able to afford when Cap and Trade is implemented, and you are saving the trees.
Read on by another Congressman without a conscience.

Congressman's view: A critical moment for Haiti
The earthquake in Haiti is not only a devastating event from a human perspective; it is a natural disaster that is imperiling that county’s best chance for political stability in decades.
By: U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, Duluth News Tribune
The earthquake in Haiti is not only a devastating event from a human perspective; it is a natural disaster that is imperiling that county’s best chance for political stability in decades.
I have observed Haitian events and politics for 50 years. In 1959 I worked for a company with a contract to teach English to students of the Haitian Military Academy. In 1990 President George H.W. Bush asked me to be part of the official U.S. team observing Haiti’s presidential elections. In 1994 I was part of the U.S. delegation that traveled to Haiti with President Clinton when President Aristide was returned to power. But even more important, I have maintained close ties with the military cadets I instructed in languages as they have risen to positions of prominence in Haitian government.
This is a tragedy of unimaginable proportions. There was abject poverty and distress in Haiti prior to the earthquake. I can only imagine how horrid the situation is now. Haiti lacks good roads, bridges, hospitals and emergency services to aid its citizens in a disaster like this. Haiti is a nation of 9 million people living in an area the size of St. Louis, Lake and Cook counties. And this nation lacks the most basic services necessary to recover from a disaster of this magnitude.
As residents of the richest nation in the world, we in the U.S. have a moral responsibility to help the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere in such a time of dire need. However, there are practical considerations in our own national interest for assisting Haiti.
This is a pivotal moment for democracy in Haiti. President Rene Garcia Preval has established stability, continuity and trust in government. If, as expected, the Preval government sets the stage for presidential elections for November 2010, and he, as is required under the constitution, does not run for re-election, then Haiti can enter an unprecedented period of political stability that will foster economic growth with investor confidence coming back to the country.
Conversely, if the Haitian government fails in this humanitarian crisis, the political turmoil will be unimaginable and will plunge the country into another decade, or more, of even worse distress. It is imperative for us to intervene for the long-term of stability of the region. Our government has to show it can partner with the Haitian government to show signs for long-term recovery and to provide service to the people and order amongst the chaos.
This is truly a critical moment in the history of the entire Caribbean region. If over these weeks following the earthquake the international community does not shore up the government, does not provide the humanitarian assistance and restore the services of government to the people, then there will be an equal political earthquake and collapse.
U.S. Rep. Jim Oberstar, a native of Chisholm, represents Minnesota’s 8th Congressional District. First elected in 1974, he is the longest-serving member of Congress in Minnesota history.

All that I can do is laugh at these DFD guys. I was a volunteer FF doing the same things they do, but for nothing, no money, power or prestige. I didn't even have a car, and actually 'hitched hiked' to the Fire Hall to get a rig to the fire ASAP.
So when I read how important, brave and deserving these guys are for their $72,000.00 yr. salary, I have to wonder.
At an actual late night fire, I was hosed down in subzero weather because I was not part of the team that wanted 'beer' available at the Fire Hall. I had to go sit in the firetruck because my hair, skin, and clothes were frozen. All this because I wanted to help my community (for free).
What's wrong with this picture? Something somewhere is totally backwards. |

Pissed off about Franken, donate to Brown and get involved. |

You are wrong once again, small soft and limp wristed one aka Dr. Z.
All I said was I will continue flipping off the moron DFDers. I don't feel they need to be patted on the back just because they did their job the other day. Friend of morons stated if I called them they would show up. I said I shudder to think that I would need them because of what happened in the past. It's idiots like you and your kind that keep bringing it up and I feel that I need to remind you idiots why I feel the way I do. So for you, moron, here's the bird for you, too. See ya at Subway. |

Want to put this health care debacle to rest? Please help Scott Brown for Senate. No, this isn’t an auto sell, I’m from Duluth and would like to see this guy win. Whatever it is, $25, $50 or whatever, please send money to this guy so he can flip this seat red, and this health care bill goes dead.
His website is www.brownforussenate.com and they take contributions over a secure web connection. Let’s get behind this guy, please.

Link for Craiglist blog post on Gold Cross. I found it very interesting reading this as it seems the same sort of assistance was given to the stormwatcher boy. Maybe Gold Cross needs more training in people choking on vomit?

82710 - Fri Jan 15 08:48:02 2010 - [DFL corruption again in Mass] By: Political Hack |
| My prediction is Scott Brown will win the election in Mass. but will not be sworn in until after the Liberals request a recount. This is a stall tactic which will give the liberals a little bit more time to ram obamacare down our throats as they know if they swear him in right away they'd not get his senate vote as Brown is opposed to the legislation. |

Why Am I Posting This: I don't know why you are posting this, you're an idiot?
Is the Mayor Donald Ness who you claim has the 90s POS Nissan the same Donald Ness who got his car repossessed for failing to make his payments and for his wonderful handling of his own finances, was rewarded by being handed the mayor's job for the city of Duluth by the DFL special interests and idiots like you?
Was that the same Donald Ness who voted against taking a pay cut when one was proposed by another councilor who was actually concerned about the citizens he represented, unlike this particular Donald Ness who managed to only consider what the pay cut would mean to himself, not those who paid his salary?
Just wondering who the stupid one is here, the ones like you who defend this clown or the dumbed down voters who voted him in. Actually, you fall into this group too which I do believe puts you in the stupid column twice.
Let me guess, you're on the government nipple for your existence. DFDer, teacher, you must be one of the parasites. Nobody, excepting those on the nipple could be that stupid or greedy.
You DFL Assclowns are really a lot of fun, you know it! LOL!

| Nice try, rusty. You're not getting any info from me. What happened that long ago doesn't matter anymore but I will continue despising the DFD lazy asses. It is my right and you or other DFD fags will never change my mind. Go concentrate on figuring out more ways to fleece the taxpayers instead. |

So Ness must be pocketing his 400 bucks a month then if he is driving that old "POS". You would think the $400 covers the cost of parking.
"Ross said he will propose mayors receive a monthly allowance to use a personal vehicle for city business. Ross is proposing a $400 monthly allowance, similar to the one given to Duluth Mayor Don Ness."

| I did think that Ness had taken his house off the market. Probably found out he can't get crap for it even with all the work his wife says she put into it. I noticed they took his purchase price off the assessors site also. Strange that they would do that. |
