Truthism, Could you share with us how many years ago you were 17 years old? Are you trying to say this means our professional fire chief would hand out beers to volunteer firefighters when they begin service in Duluth? When would he/she hand out these beers? During training? At structure fires? I suppose a "no alcohol" rule in Duluth for volunteer on duty could never work right? Remember these volunteers will be working and sleeping in the various fire halls when on duty as a volunteers. Perhaps they could start by volunteering at a small fire hall like Park Point. How about random drug tests for the volunteers and professionals alike?

Becoming Illegal (Actual letter from an Iowa resident and sent to his senator)
The Honorable Tom Harkin Telephone (202) 224 3254
731 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington DC , 20510
Dear Senator Harkin,
As a native Iowan and excellent customer of the Internal Revenue Service, I am writing to ask for your assistance. I have contacted the Department of Homeland Security in an effort to determine the process for becoming an illegal alien and they referred me to you...
My primary reason for wishing to change my status from U.S. Citizen to illegal alien stems from the bill which was recently passed by the Senate and for which you voted. If my understanding of this bill's provisions is accurate, as an illegal alien who has been in the
United States for five years, all I need to do to become a citizen is to pay a $2,000 fine and income taxes for three of the last five years. I know a good deal when I see one and I am anxious to get the process started before everyone figures it out.
Simply put, those of us who have been here legally have had to pay taxes every year so I'm excited about the prospect of avoiding two years of taxes in return for paying a $2,000 fine. Is there any way that I can apply to be illegal retroactively? This would yield an excellent
result for me and my family because we paid heavy taxes in 2004 and 2005.
Additionally, as an illegal alien I could begin using the local emergency room as my primary health care provider. Once I have stopped paying premiums for medical insurance, my accountant figures I could save almost $10,000 a year.
Another benefit in gaining illegal status would be that my daughter would receive preferential treatment relative to her law school applications, as well as 'in-state' tuition rates for many colleges throughout the United States for my son.
Lastly, I understand that illegal status would relieve me of the burden of renewing my driver's license and making those burdensome car insurance premiums. This is very important to me given that I still have college age children driving my car.
If you would provide me with an outline of the process to become illegal (retroactively if possible) and copies of the necessary forms, I would be most appreciative.
Thank you for your assistance.
Your Loyal Constituent, (hoping to reach 'illegal alien' status rather than just a bonafide citizen of the USA )

The post from "Golden Rule By: Ogichidaakwe was the most common sense thing I have seen on this blog. I am not Native American, but I think I have heard something attributed to their culture...I am paraphrasing - "Do not judge a man until you have walked in his moccasins." Some of that mindset could be very helpful. The blogging community here in Duluth is incredibly mean, narrow minded, bigoted and way too partisan. Where are the Centrists and independent thinkers? |

It is okay to hate. Hate is part of evolution. The weak are hated and then pick on and then ganged up on. Then they are killed off. People say they don't like hate, yet they have to live with it if wanting their needs. I hate some of the people at this blog because they hate. They claim moral and values from the 1950s and have a Ron and Bonzo poster hanging up by their computers. They hate Bonzo looking people in their eyes and call for the rebuilding of the Berlin Wall here in Duluth to keep the non-working, Chicago people out.
I hate Al Capone. |

I don't understand why you would say that this blog is so filled with hatred, Ogichidaakwe. Hatred towards what? Excessive taxation? Corrupt politics and maneuvering that is draining the taxpayers to the point where they either have to leave this place to seek employment or are compelled to seek assisitance from the government for food, shelter, and health care?
There was a time when I was loath to seek government assistance. It was a cut to my own personal pride and a threat to what I had hoped was my own sense of independence.
Then it dawned on me...if my property taxes weren't so excessive...if the cost of living wasn't being driven up, artificially, by extra taxation that goes largely in part to fund frivolous and downright stupid projects and generous government salaries that don't even remotely concern me...I likely would be able to afford to make it without government help.
So there are some things that I avail the government for, because I have kids to worry about. After all, I'm paying for it anyway by having my wages extorted from me through taxation. If not for the sake of my kids' health and welfare, the government could kiss my ass.
I've donated lots of time to volunteering for the greater good, too. I don't do it because I think I can save the world. I do it because it is my joyful obligation as a member of the human race. I don't need to be thanked for it. Hopefully, I will have made at least a good dent of positive difference on the corner of the world I am priviledged to live in.
What I should be thanked for is this...having the restraint it takes to keep myself from robbing a bank or something in order to keep myself and my family alive, and for struggling to pay my taxes despite the fact that I don't get a raise to cover them when they go up even higher than they were. I'm not the only one who deserves appreciation for that.
It's a thankless job. Why do you think Duluth is still declining in population?
This blog isn't "hateful." It's informative, educational, at times humorous, and it gets the craw of those who don't want to deal with reality...or those who go about dealing with it myopically.
Think about it.
Thank you. |

While I understand the "do unto others" and the often over the top blogs on here, It's NOT my fault and I REALLY disagree with the above quote! I do NOT nor have I ever contributed to the crime and general sliming of our community. For years political correctness has spewed that blame has to be spread around, specifically to people that NEVER did anything wrong. Basically if you are a tax paying, law abiding, good citizen, non minority, somehow it's your fault. Baloney!!!

| I, for one, am disgusted at the tone of this entire blog. Free Speech is a right, but this blog appears to be a haven for hatred and ignorance. As a middle-aged Native American woman who has always paid taxes (ALL: state, federal, sales & property), is raising 2 boys, has always worked a "real" job plus volunteering 1000s of hours for the BETTERMENT of this entire region I will not stand by and remain silent. If you are participating in this hateful arena take a good look at yourself, your words and be ashamed. In the eyes of all of our ancestors this behavior is asinine. Every culture has this sentiment: "Do unto others as you would have done unto you" "What goes around comes around" "It all comes back to you" Recognize that the spirit you invoke here is the very spirit you say is coming "from the outside". It's always easier to say "it's their fault" than to take an honest look at the web you yourself are spinning. For the sake of our future, our community, our children: STOP YOUR HATING and work for a positive solution. Miigwech bizindaawiyeg |

Having just checked out Stahlalinski's blog, the first time in a long time as I got tired of reading Claire and his/her many names talking to himself/herself, it is clear that most of the posts are those of the Big "C" and Oberstar's boy as usual. Things must be kind of slow at the Congressclown's office these days. Maybe it is time for a round of layoffs there if some people have time to blog on the taxpayer's back all day.
This line from the Big "C" just cut me up. "Can I write one more thing? Suzanne, you rock. You are like me -- if I were Minnesota Nice. Which I'm not. Please keep on participating on this blog!"
Posted by: Claire on 7/13/2009 6:42 PM
Too funny, the Big "C" pats herself on the back for participating on Stahlalinski's blog. You are like me. I guess so since Suzanne and Claire are the same person. Everyone knows that Suzanne is indeed the Snagglepuss of Duluth. Get a hobby Big "C", get a life, do something worthwhile. And no, you can not be Minnesota Nice because you are a transient in Minnesota, not a true Minnesotan. You are in the Franken camp of carpetbagging Minnesotans.
Truthism, aka DFL Rube, aka DFD hoser, are you not the pot calling the kettle black by saying that other FDs are the "basement savers"? As far as I can tell, DFD is in the lead in this category. You must be proud to be part of the too many, the shameless, the DFD.
What murders have occurred in Duluth? That can't be true as Duluth doesn't have a crime problem. Just ask the DFL. Just ask those involved in the importing of problems to Duluth. Maybe Duluth needs to sever ties with its sister cities Chicago, Detroit, and Milwaukee and take care of its own problems.
5 folks in the Duluth CAO position in 2 years should tell us something about how well the city is doing. LOL! I have a hard time believing that Ness won't create another $100,000 a year position for the ex CAO like he did for his pal Potswald. What heck, it is only taxpayer money. Hire someone for a certain job and when they show that they are unfit, just create another one for them and send the bill to the taxpayers. Sound familiar Lisa? This is one part of the DFL buddy system that needs to change. Duluth is getting worse than Chicago as far as this stuff goes. What do you expect from DFL Duluth?

According to AARP Mr. Obama's healthcare reform will be funded with almost $600 billion in taxes and $200 billion in penalties.
http://bulletin.aarp.org/yourhealth/policy/articles/a_look_at_the_house_democrats_health_bill.html?CMP=KNC-360I-GOOGLE-BULL&HBX_OU=50&HBX_PK=healthcare_bill
Jul. 15, 2009 (AP Online delivered by Newstex) -- Details on the health care overhaul bill introduced Tuesday by Democrats in the House:
WHO'S COVERED: Around 94 percent of non-elderly residents (those not covered by Medicare, which kicks in at age 65) would be covered -- compared with 81 percent today. Nearly half of the 17 million non-elderly residents who remain uninsured would be illegal immigrants.
COST: About $1.5 trillion over 10 years.
HOW IT'S PAID FOR: Revenue-raisers include: $544 billion from a new income tax surcharge on single people making $280,000 a year and households making $350,000 and above; $37 billion in other tax adjustments. About $500 billion in cuts to Medicare and Medicaid. About $200 billion from penalties paid by individuals and employers who don't obtain coverage.
REQUIREMENTS FOR INDIVIDUALS: Individuals must have insurance, enforced through tax penalty with hardship waivers. The penalty is 2.5 percent of income.
REQUIREMENTS FOR EMPLOYERS: Employers must provide insurance to their employees or pay a penalty of 8 percent of payroll. Companies with payroll under $250,000 annually are exempt.
SUBSIDIES: Individuals and families with annual income up to 400 percent of poverty level ($88,000 for a family of four) would get sliding-scale subsidies to help them buy coverage. The subsidies would begin in 2013.
HOW YOU CHOOSE YOUR HEALTH INSURANCE: Through a new Health Insurance Exchange open to individuals and, initially, small employers; it could be expanded to large employers over time. States could opt to operate their own exchanges in place of the national exchange if they follow federal rules.
BENEFIT PACKAGE: A committee would recommend an "essential benefits package" including preventive services, mental health services, oral heath and vision for children; out-of pocket costs would be capped. The new benefit package would be the basic benefit package offered in the exchange and over time would become the minimum quality standard for employer plans. Insurers wouldn't be able to deny coverage based on pre-existing conditions.
GOVERNMENT-RUN PLAN: A new public plan available through the insurance exchanges would be set up and run by the secretary of Health and Human Services. On average it would pay Medicare rates plus 5 percent to doctors.
CHANGES TO MEDICAID: The federal-state insurance program for the poor would be expanded starting in 2013 to cover all non-elderly individuals with incomes up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level ($14,404).

Actually I don't think Bell used the term that don't "look like us" but said something more like aren't "like us". Don't "look like" us may be interpreted as color or something, but I don't think he said that. Aren't "like us" implied people who are not working, law abiding, respectful of others, type of citzens. I think that was what Charlie was trying to get across at the time. And he was correct.
Of course, the Ness camp, and the other "progressives" spun his comments as racist! Dirty politics, but it worked for them. |

I would not lose sleep if Minnesota lost a congress person. The DFL has taxed us way beyond belief. The taxing has lead to people leaving the state. I am at that point. I went to a local liquor establishment to buy a bottle of spirits, because for some odd reason, Minnesota still has a law where they can't sell liquor on Sunday, and on the receipt there are 2 taxes listed. The first is 9.375% Liquor tax, and a second, City tax of 1%. 10.375%. And there was a proposal to raise the liquor tax even more? Give us a break. |

I have experienced what your going through right now. The problem with you and your DFD team is you hate me as a volunteer firefighter. Your DFD union believes that volunteer firefighters are impeding your cause to have every city require full-time firefighters. As a volunteer firefighter with a bordering city to Duluth, your union right now is trying to take away volunteers from our city, and you know who they are. I would suggest you stand up and be counted or this has the potential to blow up in your unions face. By making statements such as,"if they have no volunteers at their fire dept. then they will be forced to pay for a full-time department" is problematic. Eric, you better show some leadership and Ben, your the worst mouth-piece of a firefighter I've ever seen. Your union is losing credibility and if this attitude continues on you won't have any credibility. From a volunteer firefighter in a nearby city to all Duluth Firefighters, please stay safe and we are on standby for mutual aid if you need us. I respect your work as full-time firefighters, can you agree to mutually respect area volunteer firefighters who serve their respective communities. |

Where is the infamous Claudie to do one of his marches? There is a clear pattern here and is has a distressing racial trait. The black community needs to show some leadership now Claudie! This would be best of ALL of DFL Duluth’s people.

Cops: Body in alley is Duluth's second homicide this week
Two men are in custody after the body of a man was found Wednesday night behind the YMCA.
By: Brandon Stahl, Duluth News Tribune
The body of Albert George Morrison of Duluth was found in the alley behind the Duluth YMCA on Wednesday night. Police are calling the incident a homicide, Duluth’s second this week. "Robin Washington / rwashington@duluthnews.com
Two men are being held on second degree murder and aggravated robbery charges in suspicion of killing a Duluth man in what would be the second homicide in Duluth in less than a week.
Albert George Morrison, 35, was found Wednesday night face down and not breathing in the alley behind the Duluth YMCA on the 300 block of West First Street. Police said an autopsy showed that he likely died due to trauma to the head.
His death follows the shooting of Curtis Cooney, 22, Sunday in the Central Hillside neighborhood.
Police said Morrison’s pockets were pulled inside out and his socks and shoes were “some distance” away from him. Surveillance video taken at about 10:40 p.m. on Wednesday night from the Holiday Mall less than a block away showed Morrison leaving there with two men, Isaac Louis Johnson, 24, and Antonio Sinclair Lewis, 21. The video showed the men returning to the Holiday Mall about six minutes later without Johnson and then leaving with several others.
Police said they were able to identify the suspects through the video and executed a search warrant at three apartments Friday afternoon, two of those believed to be where Johnson and Lewis lived. While at the apartments, deputy chief John Beyer said police “came into contact with both” while executing the search warrant.
Morrison’s Minnesota identification card and bus pass was found at one of the apartments, police said.
Formal charges against the two are expected to be filed early next week, said police Chief Gordon Ramsay.
Police said Morrison was believed to be living in an apartment downtown and that his family was notified Friday afternoon with details of the arrest.
His family told police that whoever robbed Morrison didn’t have to hurt him.
“His family asked us to say that he was a good guy, and that they would have gotten the money had they just asked,” Ramsay said.
Johnson and Lewis both lived in Duluth, police said; they would not disclose where. That information will likely be released when the two are formally charged.
Johnson has a lengthy criminal record for convictions ranging from fleeing a peace officer in a stolen vehicle in 2005 in Hennepin County to theft of a vehicle in Dakota County in 2006 to third degree assault in St. Louis County in 2007, according to court records.
He was ordered to serve two years in prison for the crime.
Lewis was convicted earlier last month for a charge of “small amount of marijuana” in Hennepin County. He was also sentenced to one year of probation last year in St. Louis County for disorderly conduct.
Morrison also had a lengthy criminal record dating back to 1994 when he was convicted of second degree assault. Since then, he has pleaded guilty to fifth degree assault in 2008, fourth degree assault of a peace officer in 2008, and several minor offenses, including urinating in public, disorderly conduct and drinking in public.
Morrison was well known among the downtown’s low-income and transient population, said Steve Hoemke, a staff member for CHUM, a shelter where Hoemke said Morrison sometimes stayed when he wasn’t with his family.
“He was a nice man,” Hoemke said. “We all liked him here. He was more like family here. Everybody knew Al.”
Morrison was trying to pursue school, Hoemke said, but alcohol and mental health problems derailed his efforts.
When Morrison was sober, “he was a real nice guy,” said his uncle, Joseph Blacketter, who lives in an apartment near the Kozy Bar. But Blacketter, who last saw his nephew three days ago, said Morrison was a heavy drinker.
“When he would get drunk he would talk real crazy,” Blacketter said. “He was a great guy, but he had some demons.”

You say they are a bunch of taxpayer grubs but I'm sure you never pumped on the chest of a human... Let alone the chest of a baby! Can you stop with the bullshit now? Even firefighters (and Gold Cross medics) have a heart which is ripped apart when a person dies on their watch. NO PAY makes this better. PLEASE have a heart too and leave us alone! I know it's part of my pay and benefits to do this work but I'm a wreck when I come home to my healthy, living kids after working to save another child. The job is NOT as glorious as you all at the DCB think! |

Insider, if a number of firefighters aren't far left you need to band together and vote out the union leadership that spends your paycheck withholdings in support of far left candidates for office.
Also, use your right to not have any of your union dues used for political purposes. Just call your union, they are legally required to tell you how to make the request. |

DATE: July 17, 2009
SUBJECT: Death Investigation Media Conference
CASE #: 09318383
INCIDENT DATE: July 15, 2009
INCIDENT TIME: 2342 hours
INCIDENT LOCATION: 300 Block of West #1 Alley
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Homicide
BY: Brad Wick, Public Information Officer, 218-428-5296
________________________________________________________________________________
Description:On Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 11:42 p.m., Duluth Police responded to the report of a man down in the 300 Block of West #1 Alley. Arriving Officers located a male laying face down and not breathing. Officers start C.P.R. on the victim and when Gold Cross Ambulance arrives they examine the victim and pronounce him dead. Officers observed that all of the victim’s pockets were pulled inside out and his socks and shoes were off and were some distance away from him. Officers
also observed injuries to the victim's head that indicate he may have been assaulted.
The victim is transported to the St. Louis County Medical Examiners office where he was identified as
ALBERT GEORGE MORRISON, D.O.B. 07/03/1974, of Duluth. The Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Morrison and has preliminarily ruled the death a homicide, pending further investigation.
Investigators located surveillance video showing Morrison leaving the Holiday Mall with two males at approximately 10:39 p.m. on July 15th. The video shows the two males return to the Holiday Mall without Morrison approximately six minutes later. The males then leave the Holiday Mall with several other persons. Investigators are able to identify the two males from the video as Isaac Louis
Johnson DOB 01/30/1985 and Antonio Sinclair Lewis DOB 07/04/1988.
On Friday, July 17, 2009 the investigation leads to the execution of three search warrants at three separate apartments. Two of these apartments are believed to be the residencies of Johnson and Lewis. Morrison's Minnesota identification card and bus pass is found at one of the locations.
After the execution of the search warrants both Johnson and Lewis are interviewed and arrested.
Investigators have also identified and interviewed all of the individuals Lewis and Johnson left the Holiday Mall with the night of Morrison’s death.
Both Johnson and Lewis have been lodged in the St. Louis County Jail on second degree murder and aggravated robbery charges. The St. Louis County Attorney’s office is expected to file formal charges early next week. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Duluth
Police Department Violent Crimes Unit at 218-730-5050. |

| After finalizing my divorce I sold my house on Vinland St. in Proctor and moved to a house I purchased near 5th street and 6th ave. I can say I had been served by one of the poorest county commissioners in Proctor, that being Peg Sweeney. She is clueless! I now find myself represented by the welfare commissioner named Steve O"Neil. An earlier post suggested that O'Neil may be responsible for many welfare recepients coming to our area. I agree. He has re-tained his job by bring non-workers to our city. Steve O'Neil and his good friend, Frank J., are two liberal friends that that have brought more problems and trouble to our community than any two people I know. We need O'Neil out next election. There are other good DFL candidates in waiting that will excel and do a great job. |

Cynic, that list of the most dangerous jobs really should be called: "the least safe jobs", or "jobs that the most people die while doing".
Because of safety standards, minimum staffing requirements and safety equipment, in the line of duty deaths are down for fire fighters. That doesn't mean it isn't a dangerous job though. |

Things are warming up in DFL Duluth. Two crimes involving weapons. Attempted 2nd Degree Murder and an Armed Robbery.
DFL09 you had better hire more firefighters and buy some more beds and new kitchen appliances to help with the latest DFL Duluth crime wave.
While you’re at it DFL09, why not start a lottery for the next murder. $10 per guess. Look at all the money for new stripper poles for the FD and help fund all those disability retirements from off duty injuries.
Remember a lottery is not a tax!
My guess is July 13th at 2:49AM near the Kozy. My WIDELOAD's cafe down the avenue is the safe house.
Where do I send the money?
Anyone else want to take a stab at when the next murder will occur?

Questions for Dodge says, "Is it because DFD works a 56 hour week".
Come on you DFDer, you aren't really trying to convince anyone that you actually "work" a 56 hour week, are you? In order to "work" for 56 hours I would bet that it would take more like 56 weeks to get this done. Getting paid for 56 hours has nothing to do with "work" as it includes sleeping, eating, blogging, pole dancing, and a long list of other events which are not "work". Your false statement is however, one more reason to cut the DFDers to a 12 hour shift so that they can do these other events on their own time and dime, not ours.
But thanks for the humor anyway. |

Because they sleep half their shifts, they actually work 3 full days a month. Is it making sense they buy the politicians that "support" them. The taxpayers are getting screwed by their behavior. DATE: July 13, 2009
SUBJECT: Homicide Media Conference by Deputy Chief John Beyer
CASE #:09316258
INCIDENT DATE: July 12, 2009
INCIDENT TIME: 2201 hours
INCIDENT LOCATION: 200 Block of East #5 Alley
NATURE OF INCIDENT: Shooting/Homicide
BY: Brad Wick, Public Information Officer
_______________________________________________________________________________
Description: On Sunday, July 12, 2009, at 10:01 p.m., Duluth Police responded to the report of a shooting in the 200 Block of East #5 Alley.
Officers arriving on scene located two male gunshot victims near 419 N. 2nd Avenue East. Curtis Michael Cooney D.O.B. 08/10/1986 sustained a single gunshot wound to the head. Cooney was transported to a local hospital where was pronounced dead. Ephriam Darell Burks D.O.B. 08-01-1987 sustained a gunshot wound to his leg and was transported to a local hospital. Burk’s injury is not life threatening.
Just prior to the shooting Cooney, Burks and several other individuals were inside 419 N. 2nd Avenue East when they were told that there were three persons outside with baseball bats. They when out side and exchanged a few words with the three individuals just prior to the shots being fired. The only suspect information the police department is releasing at this time is the three suspects are all believed to be black males.
Numerous witness statements were taken at the scene. In addition, the crime scene was secured and processed. Numerous spent shell casings were recovered from the shooting scene.
The police believe this shooting may be related to a disturbance call at the rear of 221 East 4th Street approximately an hour and twenty minutes prior to the shooting. This call involved one of the shooting victims and several other individuals. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time. The police are asking that anyone with information on this shooting call the Duluth Police Department’s Violent Crimes Unit at 218-730-5050.

I called the PD and asked how many policemen were working at the time of the shooting and he said there were 13 officers working. Almost 3 times as many firefighters on duty than cops. I heard over the scanner they were requesting the 911 workers to page out more cops. Not that anything could have been avoided, just a point of fact. |

Chuck Horton of Duluth writes:
"The citizens of Duluth have had it with the most notable news about our leaders being centered on their dishonesty, hypocrisy and disgrace rather than actual solutions to our city’s many problems. If you agree we need councilors who stop putting themselves above the people, join me July 27 at City Hall."
This is a good place to start, but why stop there? Ask for the resignations of all city & county employees, administrators and commissioners, who have abused their positions or power. Included should be all of those who have caused law suits against this city & county, which taxpayers ultimately foot the bill for.
Why is it again that these law breakers continue working in their jobs without any sort of justice being served? I think Chuck is on to something!

Mr Duluth,
I have to agree. You used to hear, and I think still do, how expensive it is to live in Minneapolis-St Paul. I think it is now the opposite. It is expensive to live in Duluth. I just got back from the cities, where gas is 2.29 a gallon, compared to 2.49 a gallon here. Try finding an apartement in Duluth, that isn't in a seedy part of town for less than 700. I don't think you can. According to rent.com, Chesterwood apartments on Kenwood are starting at 820 for 700 square feet. Who in Duluth can afford that? This is most of the reason why young people are fleeing Duluth. I moved out of Duluth for a while, and I was paying 565 a month for an 800 square foot apartment. Duluth needs lots of help.
And I will be at the "rally" being organized by Mr. Horton. Both clowncilors need to be shown the door. |

Ed McMahon died last week. He was a great entertainer, but prior to his stage accomplishments he was a distinguished Marine Corps fighter pilot in WWII earning six Air Medals and attaining the rank of Colonel. He was discharged in 1946 and was later promoted to the rank of Brigadier General in the CA Air National Guard.
Farrah Fawcett died last week after a long career in Hollywood as an actress. After she was diagnosed with cancer, she became an activist for cancer treatment and devoted her last remaining years encouraging people to seek treatment. She documented her plight on film and used it to encourage others to stay positive and upbeat despite their diagnosis and suffering.
Michael Jackson died last week. He was perhaps one of the greatest singers of modern time. He will also be remembered for his eccentric lifestyle that included sleeping with a chimpanzee, living in a carnival-like atmosphere at Neverland, his fascination with Peter Pan, and his numerous masks and costumes. He also admitted to finding pleasure sleeping with young boys and paying out millions of dollars in settlements to the families of these boys despite being acquitted by a court on one allegation of sexual molestation.

| Hey jthyme, I don't have to read an article in Parade magazine because if there is anyone who knows a thing or two about parades, it's me and my co-workers. We're in more parades than the Shriners for Christ's Sake. Your wanting me to say that our department will accept volunteers to work along side of us. The answer is no and not ever. We train every single day, volunteers don't. We are professional and help protect both private and public structures from further fire damage and respond to all medicals in the city in less than 3 minutes. Suggesting volunteers in Duluth is nonsense. The taxpayers in Duluth deserve better than some wannabe firefighters. Remember this, we are a paid full-time professionally trained fire department and will remain so.... |

July 10 2009
Budgeteer Letters to the Editor - July 12, 2009
In regard to recent actions by certain members of City Council, I am organizing a public rally to protest the gross disregard they have shown the citizens of Duluth and to tell them: “Enough is enough!”
Speaking on behalf of many who are demanding the resignations of Sharla Gardner and Tony Cuneo, I am organizing a protest on the Duluth City Hall steps at 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 27.
Mr. Cuneo destroyed his trust with the public by voting to raise taxes on his neighbors when he himself was not paying his own fair share.
No one begrudges him for having financial difficulties, but to vote on tax hikes for everyone else at the same time? That shows just how much disregard Cuneo has for the rest of us who are already overburdened with increasing city taxes and fees, not to mention the increasing taxes hitting us from the state and federal governments.
Unlike Mr. Cuneo, most people can’t bank on getting a new job that will make these hardships go away. His ability to obtain a lucrative position with the Zeppa Foundation — the same place where our mayor was employed prior to being elected — further damages the credibility of one who raises taxes on fellow citizens in a community where good job prospects are slim.
Regarding Ms. Gardner, it is without a doubt she demonstrated conflict of interest by accepting money from the Sister Cities commission, when voting to increase their funding. Then Gardner took advantage of her position by going on a Sister Cities-paid trip. Are there not countless other citizens who could have served as our ambassador to avoid this conflict?
But, most importantly, she lied to the public about who paid for her trip and refused to apologize for her deception.
The citizens of Duluth have had it with the most notable news about our leaders being centered on their dishonesty, hypocrisy and disgrace rather than actual solutions to our city’s many problems.
If you agree we need councilors who stop putting themselves above the people, join me July 27 at City Hall.

80783 - Fri Jul 10 20:23:26 2009 - [Mr. Duluth to move-Mr.Twiggy or Eskimo?] By: Mr. Duluth |
Sorry if anyone misses Mr. Duluth. Us school teachers do get the summer off and well...I fell asleep. While sleeping, I had this bad dream that my boss, Mr. Dixon had a crazy plan to spend 400 million on the schools down the road, even if the student population is decreasing as well as the tax base due to the fact our homes are not worth the amount that tax man said they are worth. Well, this is not a bad dream.
So, as a teacher and home owner in this city, I'm worried. So, after talking to my wife, we are moving either to Esko, or up in Twig.
Enough about that. This is what happens I guess when people see money like this being wasted. I'm hoping that we will be out of Duluth by the school year.
Now, about that big promotion to by local as seen in the ads by KBJR TV. They have that new guy and David Ross and other saying BUY local. Hmm, get real, if you buy local, you must be local. I have a friend in the food service business and he has heard this and asked why he does not buy from Upper Lakes for example. Well, there prices are out of line. The same with cars in Duluth. People if you want the good deals, don't buy in Duluth. Go to Minneapolis. The car I drive now I saved over $1500 buying in the Twin Cities last year. Sorry Duluth dealerships. You want my $1500? Get real. I would have paid maybe $200 to $400 more to make you happy, yet you want TO BE HAPPY at my cost. Sorry get real.
Sorry KBJR TV. |

80781 - Fri Jul 10 07:55:55 2009 - [Banking institutions are dangerous] By: Libertarian |
In light of the present financial crisis, it's interesting to read what Thomas Jefferson said in 1802:
Banking institutions are more dangerous to our
liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever
allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their
children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered..
Doesn't this sound eerily familiar to what is happening in America today?

Canada, A Low-Cost Place to do Business?
Tim Hortons, Inc., a coffee and pastry company located in Canada but based in Delaware, recently announced they were shifting their corporate registration back to Canada. Because of its government subsidized health care system and subsequently high taxes, Canada is not generally known as a business magnet. However, the Canadian federal government now has a conservative leaning majority that is pushing the federal corporate tax rate down to 15% in 2012. They have also called on the provinces to work towards a 10% business levy for a combined 25% rate on corporate income. Meanwhile, the top corporate rate in the United States remaining in the mid 30% range.
Many corporations feel that this all part of a change in the U.S. business environment, where taxes are likely heading upward to deal with trillion-dollar deficits, proposed health care "reforms," and a White House looking to crack down on companies that invest abroad.

This is another example the successful DFL Duluth economy, not being able to sell only 1,800 tickets for a concert. What an absolute embarrassment again. If it is not free and paid for by taxpayers, no one shows up.
From about $18 into a failed fish tank to the DFL’s in ability to attract private business good paying jobs the likes of Rochester, St. Cloud, Mankato, Fargo and so on. DFL Duluth will not thrive on $7.25/hr call center jobs or free loader support jobs for those who come here for DFL social services.

Lower than expected ticket sales have canceled concert scheduled for Sunday at Bayfront Festival Park. The four acts, including Los Lonely Boys, Mat Kearney, Erin McCarley and Wild Sweet Orange, will not appear as planned, according to Steve Grazier of Secret Service Entertainment.
The promoter expected to sell 1,800 tickets, he said, but only 375 had been purchased as of Thursday evening.
Secret Service Entertainment is offering a full refund to ticket holders, who will be automatically refunded within seven days, according to the company. Those who purchased tickets at the Electric Fetus will have to visit the store to get their refunds.

This letter writer has it right. Jim Oberstar is so disconnected from the people of Northern MN.
In all reality the CongressCLOWN does very little but operate in a well run propaganda machine. Every two years you read Oberstar got us this grant and did this and did that but its nothing more than a repetitive public relations stunt.
You have to be stupid, on the take, or spent time in DFL indoctrination camps to think that Oberstar is doing more than any other CongressCLOWN who would represent you.
Oberstar brings home very little bacon but does use the union dues payers to stay in office for his big corporate specail interests, while at the same time stabs the same union workers in the back with the Stimulus and Crap & Trade legislation. You can only wonder if being unemployed for the next decade will wake up the indoctrinated?
Jim Oberstar has to go and is a major reason you need to go GREEN and read the LIB online for free saving money, energy and the trees.

Reader's view: Oberstar sticking it to the little guy
Jim Oberstar proved again he’s more interested in serving special interests than the welfare of his constituents. Oberstar voted for the so-called climate change bill without having even read it, just as was the case with the stimulus bill. This bill passes a massive tax on carbon emissions, notably in areas of energy and agriculture.
Jim claims he’s standing up to polluters who, in all honesty, are unaffected by the bill. When the electric company gets slapped with the tax they will simply pass it along to the consumers — i.e. the little guys. Jim says it’s only going to hit the average household for another $178 a year, but many estimates say it will be $1,000. Regardless, the big company doesn’t get shafted; the little guys must pay.
Furthermore, the increase cost of farming will be also passed along to the consumer as the farmer tries to recoup the extra costs Oberstar has thrown on top him. In addition to the increased electrical and food costs, the trucking industry will similarly be hammered by new regulations causing a rate hike. In layman’s terms you are looking at an across-the-board price hike that will hit the poor and working class families the hardest during a deep recession.
Finally since many nations are not bound by cap-and-trade law, many independent analysts predict a further outsourcing of as many as two million American jobs overseas. How Mr. Oberstar feels this serves the needs of Minnesotans is beyond rational explanation with the exception of senility.
Jim boasts of looking out for the little guy. This latest vote shows that he cares more for the welfare of a skunk than the men women and children he claims to represent.

545 PEOPLE
By Charlie Reese
Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, WHY do we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, WHY do we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget.
The president does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations.
The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, and nine Supreme Court justices, 545 human beings out of the 300 million are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority.
They have no ability to coerce a senator, a congressman,
or a president to do one cotton-picking thing.
I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash.
The politician has the power to accept or reject it.
No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits.. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.
The Constitution, which is the supreme law of the land,
gives sole responsibility to the House of Representatives
for originating and approving appropriations and taxes.
Who is the speaker of the House?
Nancy Pelosi.
She is the leader of the majority party. She and fellow House members, not the president, can approve any budget they want.
If the president vetoes it, they can pass it over his veto if they agree to.
It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million cannot replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people.
When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Army & Marines are in IRAQ,
it's because they want them in IRAQ.
If they do not receive social security but are on an elite
retirement plan not available to the people, it's because they want it that way.
There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats,
whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish;
to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject;
to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power.
Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like "the economy," "inflation," or "politics" that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses. |

80740 - Thu Jul 2 20:54:02 2009 - [Same old DFL hypocrisy] By: Ben Dover |
You gotta love this piece from the Pudknocker on Stahlalinski's site.
"Anyway, I think has nothing to do with who spent how much. The Bush Administration DID severely increase the federal defecit with the war, which, we found out (and I knew before hand) was not needed. So you can come to the conclusion that that spending was quite wasteful (not to mention the lives lost; more US combat deaths happened under Bush than Obama, if you really want to nitpick). But yes, the current Administration has shoveled out it's fair share of spending, and if people want to complain about it, that's fine. I'm right there with you if I feel there has been wasteful spending. I'm doing it now, and I did it during the Bush years. However, I argue that the vast majority of the folks who attend the Tea Party in Duluth never rasied their voices in protest over the costs of the war (let alone the cost in lives, which, you should agree, are more important than money)."
Ummmm, Puddy, Obama has been in office 6 months, not 8 years. Wanna take bets on how many more lives will be lost in the unwinable Afghan war? Where are all you anti war protesters now that the war in Afghanistan is escalating under Obama?
I love when you say that the current administration has shoveled out its own share of spending. Come on, fair share? How about trillions of new and unneeded spending, which will, in the fianl analysis, lead to the demise of the once almighty dollar and possibly the country as we know it.
How about it Puddy, get with the program. Spend a little less time with the "C"s of the world and take a look at what Obama is doing and ask yourself if this is really the change which will better the U.S. On second hand forget it. A government teet sucker like you will never see it through the eyes of an ordinary American. Ordinary Americans are suffering and all you Socialists want to do is tax them more and more. Your kind puts themselves above the rest of society. Enjoy the ride while it lasts.

The DFL Duluth Cuneo-Gardner and their ilk are why this area is suffering. These shameless DFL con artists and their socialist agenda are the many have lost their jobs at the LIB and beyond. Sadly, it is going to get worse because of DFL greed.
Drive around Duluth and look at the condition of this city. Words like depressing, deplorable and disgusting only begin to describe DFL Duluth. Where has the tax money gone? Obviously not where it should have.
DFL Duluth cronies like Tony Cuneo and Sharla Gardner are why you need to go GREEN and read the LIB online for free saving money, energy and the trees.
This letter is a ray of light that at least one person can see through the DFL Duluth smoke and mirrors.

Reader's view: Hold city personnel accountable for their actions
All elected or hired city government personnel should be held accountable for their actions when it regards the spending of public money collected through special taxes. They should be held accountable for their actions in regards to their conduct while on the job and how they wield whatever power has been relegated to them.
Councilor Sharla Gardner, while trying to figure out who paid for her trip, told several scenarios of how much of her Sister Cities trip was paid for. But the real issue and conflict is that after her trip she used her vote to get Duluth Sister Cities International more money. As a past recipient — and possible future recipient — she should have abstained when the vote came to give them more money.
We find out through Councilor Tony Cuneo’s tax debacle that he is a landlord, which throws questions upon his actions. How would the 300-foot rule have affected his rental property? Could it have benefitted him financially? He, too, should have abstained from any vote to avoid conflict.
These are elected officials. Their actions and any other’s actions should be brought to our attention as the tax payers who foot their pay.

I'm sorry to hear about Monson Trucking closing it's doors. Those people who are losing good paying Jobs must feel like shit. Monson Trucks were all over this nation. A neighbor of mine is a trucker there and said that the two major corporations which shut down were anticipating the social change and many in the company knew if Obama was elected there was a great chance he and many others would be looking for work. This wasn't that much of a surprise to them as the paper made it out to be. Best of luck employees and God be with you while looking for other good paying jobs. You still want "change"?

Heath is the executive director of the Lincoln Park Business Group. He'd be a great addition to the city council. We need to find another candidate for at large council as well. Becky Hall anyone? |

Monson Trucking to close at summer's end
The economic downturn, decline of the paper industry and the bankruptcy of two major customers prompted the decision to close the 94-year-old trucking business.
Monson Trucking of Duluth will cease operations after Aug. 31, company officials said. Monson Trucking, headquartered in Duluth, is closing its operations on Aug. 31, putting 200 people out of work.
Its 100 employees in Duluth were told today in multiple meetings, said Michael Monson, one of the owners. About 100 additional employees at its terminals in Virginia, Red Wing and Mauston, Wis., were told via video conferencing.
The Duluth employees will continue working until Aug. 31, while those at other terminals were terminated this morning, Monson said.
Monson said the economic downturn, decline of the paper industry and the bankruptcy of two major customers prompted the decision to close the 94-year-old trucking business.

DFL "wolf pack" sighting (Saul Alinsky would be proud)
At 1215 I spotted a large pack of DFL'ers at the corner of 21st avenue east and London Road. They had multiple Franken for senate signs and were waving at cars driving by. Some of the signs said "Honk for Franken". They were also hooting an hollering, apperently in celebration because of the successful manipulation and theft of votes to ensure Frankens victory. They apparently crawled out of the Reef and or "Labor Temple" under the direction of some labor pimp (union leader) to show support for Frankens so called victory. One thought came to mind. Where the hell do these people work? Who the hell has time to stand on some street corner to hype and pimp a political candidate in the middle of a work day? Most normal productive people in our society have jobs to do. Well whatever, what else can one expect in Duluth. |

80727 - Wed Jul 1 13:09:01 2009 - [Sick of the DFL corruption] By: Adam R |
The ballots from the trunk were from a Lake County, not St. Louis County says Mr. Wrestling. Big deal, they still came from the land of DFL corruption. Thanks for confirming that. And they were confirmed as legit by whom, Mark Ritchie, another DFL bought and paid for puke trained by and paid for by Soros and Moveon.org? Is that what a DFLer considers legit???
You should be sick of the DFL corruption, not about which part of Northeasten Minnesota DFL corruption this particular fraud occurred in. DFL fraud occurs daily in this part of the Minnesota. The sad thing is that most of it is covered up by the DFL mafia.
What makes me laugh is people like you who are too damn dumb to see the real crimes being committed. Why is Franken heading to DFL controlled Northeasten Minnesota, because he prefers a parade on those good roads? No, he has to thank those who brought him to power, plain and simple.
Isn't it interesting that the ballots found in the trunk were not from any other part of the state other than the part that is 100% DFL controlled? And the votes that were supposedly forgotten to be called in? Again, from the land of the one party DFL corruption in Northeasten Minnesota.
The DFL has made this area the laughingstock of the state and is trying to make it the laughingstock of the country too.

First, the ballots from the trunk happened in LAKE County for your information.
Second, the City Clerk from Mr. Iron forgot to call in his totals. They were verified as legit.
The only reason I bring this up is that so much misinformation is recited here it makes me sick. Opinions are one thing, but selling opinions as fact is a whole differnt matter. Remember, it was LAKE County not St. Louis County, Mr Dover. |

80724 - Wed Jul 1 07:13:22 2009 - [How the liberal spells "success"] By: EMU |
Five Years of Fleecing Taxpayers
Last week marked the five year anniversary of the Hiawatha light rail system. Liberals heralded the anniversary as a great accomplishment, saying ridership levels are above what was expected and therefore touting the line a success.
The Hiawatha line will never be a success because it costs taxpayers over $15 million a year in operating subsidies. State taxpayers foot the bill for two thirds of the cost to operate the line and that doesn't include the $775 million taxpayers paid to build the line in the first place.
If this is how the liberal spells "success," don't build anymore.
Even Metro Transit spokesperson Bob Gibbons said that the more ridership increases, the more it costs to operate, because more ridership mean more wear and tear on the system. Hennepin County Commissioner Peter McLaughlin also pointed out that if the light rail system is going to expand they are "going to have to identify additional funding." Both of those facts mean more of your money going into the funding hole that is light rail transit.
To build Hiawatha, Northstar, and the Central Corridor, the liberals will spend more than $2 billion of taxpayer money with annual operating subsidies approaching $50 million a year. |

80721 - Tue Jun 30 19:35:59 2009 - [The Joke Is On You Minnesota] By: Ben Dover |
If it wasn't embarrassing enough to have Senator Welfare representing Minnesota, now we have shown the world what we get with a "World Class Education". Watching the news this evening I couldn't help but feel embarrassed once again when Franken was said to have "won" the Minnesota Senate race. In describing him, they said that he had "no" previous experience in politics and never held elected office in his life. He now holds one of the most powerful offices in the country, if not the world. Instead he has spent his life as a "comedian". Well, the joke is on Minnesota as this loser now heads West to D.C. That's right, I said West. He is a New York fella, not a Minnesotan as most Minnesotans with a world class education were told. He was in Minnesota the last 30 years about as much as Congressclown Oberstar, which is not too often as we all know.
Thanks Tom Dooher and "Education Minnesota" for "educating" the voters so well that they actually put this clown into office. What an embarrassment! And thank you Saint Louis County DFLers for pulling the needed extra ballots from the trunk of the car to be included in the "recount" by the Soros boy, Mark Ritchie. You done good Mark, just like we trained ya! See how we can not only play a good joke on the Minnesotans by stuffing the ballot box in St. Louis County to reverse a 700+ vote election night victory for Coleman, but we actually put a real clown into that office.
People get the government they deserve!
"World Class Education" LOL! LOL! LOL! LOL! Compared to what, Kenya?
What a farce. Wake up people!

Two words for you DCB losers! Total dominance!!!!
Victory is sooooooooooo sweet losers!
The Minnesota Supreme Court has ordered that Democrat Al Franken be certified as the winner of the state's long-running Senate race. The high court rejected a legal challenge from Republican Norm Coleman, whose options for regaining the Senate seat are dwindling.
If Franken takes the seat, Democrats in the Senate will likely have a big enough majority to overcome Republican filibusters.

Saying Obama was born in Kenya is NOT racisim, IT IS THE TRUTH, WHICH YOU CAN'T HANDLE. Your main man bill clinton raised taxes so much that companies had no choice but to move manufacturing out of this country. The same thing will happen when your party passes all this "cap and tax" will make it even harder for manufacturing to take place in this country. There is a reason so much is made in china. I don't like that, but with all the tree huggers and democrats I can see why it is happening.
I will remind you that from 2002 until congress went to the democrats in 2006 we were much better off than we are now. Also, the mid 1990's were good times because congress was NOT controlled be democrats. |
